In responding to gender-based violence, the ministry is involved in the following
activities
- Referring survivors of gender-based violence for
essential services such as health/medical services, safety and security
services, legal services and shelter
- The ministry through the GBV centre provides
psychosocial support to survivors of GBV by the psychologist
- The Ministry with support from UNFPA has provided
GBV survivors sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) training, life skills
and vocational training and start up kits to GBV survivors
- Provides conditional cash transfer to survivors
- Through Spotlight Initiatives interventions the
ministry monitors and evaluate the activities of CSOs like GADA, GPI, e.t.c to
stop the barbaric culture of MONEY WIVES and FGM in obanliku LGA
- Monitor and evaluate safe space centre in schools
and second chance education in rural areas.
GENDER BASED VIOLENCE PREVENTIONS
In preventing the occurrence of GBV in the state the ministry has done the
following:
- Conducted sensitization campaigns across the 18
LGAs on the dangers and effects of GBV
- Advocacy visits have been conducted during the 16
days of activism, to the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly,
Chief Judge of the state, and Commissioner of Police Cross River state police
Command.
- Advocacy visits to traditional rulers, religious
leaders e.t.c
- Radio and television programmes on sexual and
gender bases violence to the people of cross river state’
- Introduction of GBV into the school curriculum
