SPECIAL ADVISER ON WOMEN AFFAIRS INAUGURATES TECHNICAL WORKING COMMITTEE ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (GBV)
The Special-Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Surv. Gertrude Njar has inaugurated the Technical Working Committee on Gender Based Violence (GBV) with a charge to be focused, proactive and dexterous. The SA who performed the ceremony at the conference room of the ministry of Women Affairs emphasized that the Gender Based Violence was trending at an alarming rate and needed to be drastically reduced. She lamented that though the trend was global the recorded incidences in the state and Nigeria had become phenomenal.
Surv. Njar urged the Committee members to seize the opportunity to exploit every means to curb the anti-social problems through advocacy and public education. According to her, comprehensive record keeping was vital to achieving the mandate of the committee. Such revelations she said would guide future action plans in conformity with the national policy on Gender Based Violence.
Members of the committee were drawn from relevant ministries and parastatals, NGOs and Civil Organizations.
